Yet, he denied one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old child.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

The defendant engaged in a "sweet game" with the children, Mrs Prior said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She informed the proceedings the man had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She explained Ruben had been able to explain this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in recently.

Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his stepson had suspicions about the activities, with valid cause.

"They resolved" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC explained items including lubricant, Vaseline and syringes were found, and his stepchild notified the authorities about his suspicions.

She stated the man continued to play the "candy game" with six children that night - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.

"The police had not gone out by that point," she stated further.

The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was examining law enforcement's management of the situation.

The legal representative explained the children were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson notified the authorities once more.
